Moments of Being Productions is pleased to announce that Benny has made the official selection of the 2018 Portland Comedy Film Festival.

Held in Portland, Oregon, the event will screen 200 comedy films from around the world, with Benny set to open the final session of screenings on Saturday, March 24, 2018.

The latest festival success comes after Awards recognition from the One-Reeler Short Film Competition and the IndieFest Film Awards

Thanks for following the progress of this film and we will provide more updates soon. For now you can view the trailer for Benny.

IndieFEST Film Awards Success

Moments of Being Productions are excited to announce their recent success at the prestigious IndieFEST film awards.

The awards received include:

Award of Merit Special Mention (Film Short)

Mandella Saaid

Award of Merit (Film Short)

Morgan Way
Sam Doyon

Executive Producer and company director, Mr Michael Lee was delighted with the news, hoping it is a sign of things to come. “We are very pleased with the news and hoping it serves as momentum for Benny as the international festival season approaches,” he said.

“Like many short films, both were produced on a very small budget and it really is a testament to the small group of people that have combined to bring the creative vision to life – from page to screen,” he added.

Mr Lee also mentioned that the awards success ensure that these exciting creative collaborations are here to stay.

“I’ve been blessed to work with Morgan and Sam of Wayward Productions, we certainly share a love of comedy and the practicality of getting things off the ground and I can’t say enough positive things about the talent of Mandella Saaid. So yes, we can expect some more projects soon.”

La Poupee was filmed back in 2015 and stars Alex Zamfir in an absurd buddy detective genre film, while dark comedy Benny is written, directed and produced by Mr Saaid while in his final year studying at the Academy of Film Theatre and Television in Sydney.

Lee also features as a lead actor in both films, a trend that looks to continue as he eyes the road ahead.

“The concept of self-producing is something I took on board after attending a producers Masterclass held by Bobby Galinsky and I know it is something that helps me stay proactive in an industry that is still relatively new to me and I know my agent Charmaine (Gilchrist) appreciates this, which is so important.

“I am also currently in the final stages of securing an option agreement for an exciting Australian autobiography and have just completed a feature script that centres around the 70s and 80s rock scene in Australia. So there is lots to look forward to as I open up to attracting more experienced producers as I begin to seek funding to get these major projects off the ground.” He added.

La Poupee & Benny will be available for online purchase in 2018.

‘Memoir’ lyrics – International Songwriting Competition Semi-Finalist 2015

I am extremely humbled to announce that ‘Memoir’ has made the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Competition for 2015.

Memoir was written on spec for an independent Australian feature film a few years ago. The director decided it didn’t fit the film in the end but I remember at the time feeling it was definitely my best work. You can listen to the recorded version of this song here:

The finalists are announced in a few weeks time. I am honoured to be in the running along with fellow Australians Birds of Tokyo, Troy Cassar Daley & Paul Kelly and the amazing Katie Noonan (who we saw at Woodford Folk Festival this year) who are all nominated in different categories.

String your cold heart out
Leave it out to dry
Until that old bell sounds
You only wonder why
What good is the garden that doesn’t grow
What good is the house that isn’t home
Fought a war with myself
Down in London town
Scrapbook memories
They won’t bring me down
Face the light you’ve found
Saying last goodbyes
Feet upon the ground
As your heart still flies
What good is the garden that doesn’t grow
What good is the house that isn’t home
Fought a war with myself
Down in London town
Scrapbook memories
They won’t bring me down
Take all of my secrets, read from cover to cover
……..Well you can never be my lover, I’m a man not a moment
So float back to Paris, I’m sure that you’re an angel
Alone is where I’ll be caught between all the pages of yesterday
Finding shattered dreams…..
What good is the garden that doesn’t grow
What good is the house that isn’t home
Won the war with myself
Down in London town
Scrapbook memories
Will never bring me down
What good is the garden that doesn’t grow
What good is the house that isn’t home
To know where we’re going got to know where we’ve been
Saw your prayers had been answered in broken dreams…
